‘Subsidence’ is primarily an exploration into sound. It includes field recordings collected over the past five years from various locations including data centers and subterranean bunkers to the steppe of Kazakhstan. Using radio atmospheric signal recorders to capture the natural sound of the earth as well as coil mics to record electromagnetic frequencies emitted from technological devices, these tools provide access to an invisible layer of reality.
The moving image footage is shot on location in the volcanic island of Lanzarote. The piece seeks to create an immersive experience of environments with a parallel existence of past and present.
